Psychology Internship / Training

Although interns will NOT have any contact with clients or shadow any psychologist, they will be given the opportunity to increase their practical skills while working with other interns and participating in both mock sessions and supervised sessions. This internship / training program focuses both on professional as well as personal development.

For graduated Bachelor’s and Master’s students:

Requirements:

  • Graduated with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • CV

Role description:

  • Provide professional and academic research when necessary.
  • Perform supervised and unsupervised individual and group mock sessions.
  • Participate in personal development as well as professional development.
  • Train as both client and therapist during the internship.
  • May perform other related tasks that are a part of the clinic’s operation.
  • Work is supervised by professional staff, and individual clinical work is supervised by a licensed psychologist.

This is a 5 month, 21 hours per week, 22 weeks, 462-hour psychology internship/ training program.

Responsibilities of the interns/ trainees:

  1. Read, sign, follow and honor HRIC’s office policies, confidentiality and conflict of interest agreements.
  2. Work within the limits of their education qualifications and skills.
  3. Proactively request support when needed.
  4. Complete documentation and keep an accurate record of their training hours.
  5. Participate in performance evaluations when asked.
  6. Be punctual and notify the supervisor of absences due to health or other reasons in advance when possible.
  7. Maintain a professional attitude towards their tasks in the office.
  8. Address areas of conflict or concerns in a respectful manner, in accordance with HRIC policies.
  9. Agree to the office environment and style of the clinical supervisor.
  10. Represent the organization accurately and positively to other organizations and individuals.

Internship/ Training layout:

The internship/ training program is divided into 3 phases.

Phase 1 includes:

  • Learning about counseling skills
  • Looking into different theoretical orientations as well as disorders,
  • Learning about assessments
  • Participating in supervision sessions
  • Conducting research
  • Working on personal development
  • Discussing personal and professional fears and discomforts
  • Watching videos on therapy sessions

Phase 2 includes:

  • Practicing counseling skills in mock sessions
  • Participating in supervision sessions
  • Conducting research
  • Working on personal development
  • Challenging personal and professional fears and discomforts

Phase 3 includes:

  • Conducting personal sessions
  • Participating in supervision sessions
  • Conducting research
  • Working on personal development

We do not offer the Psychology Internship for high school students.

For ongoing Bachelor’s students:

We do not offer the psychology internship for students currently pursuing their bachelor’s degree unless it is a requirement by their program (AUS students).
